It Takes Two

It Takes Two

Rating on Metacritic – 88

What’s good? Fairytale stories happen in the gaming industry too. The tiny Swedish studio Hazelight employs only 72 people, but through luck and hard work they have won a major award in the world of video games!

Who else could have won? 2021 is the weakest in my memory. There’s nothing supernatural about It Takes Two – it’s an enjoyable co-operative game that can be passed in a few evenings with your other half or a friend. But the other projects are even weaker!

The best rated game among the new releases is Forza Horizon 5 (92 on Metacritic). But GOTY races have not been given yet, so the journalists’ attention was partially stolen by Resident Evil Village and Deathloop, which, of course, are far from such a status.

Well, and I can’t forget about Cyberpunk. The greed of the studio’s top brass led to a terrible release in December 2020, with the PS4 and Xbox One versions looking like an unfunny prank. If not for endless promises to investors and players, the studio had extra months to develop. The game would have been released, for example, in autumn 2021 and would have made it to The Game Awards 2021 just the same (remember, December releases are the following year). But instead of the ridiculous two nominations for Best Music and RPG of the Year, Cyberpunk would have competed in the main category!
