The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Rating on Metacritic – 92

What’s good for. A milestone game and a living manual for making the best RPG in the industry. Yes, you can’t muzzle your own hero or control your co-players here. In return we got one of the best stories, charismatic heroes, absolutely killer diverse quests and a wild amount of memes. Games like this come out a couple of times a generation.

Who else could have won? The other projects in a given year didn’t stand much of a chance. Fallout 4 was repulsed by strange claims to compete with The Sims and the fairy Preston Garvey, who bore you the whole game. Bloodborne, iconic in PC circles, was scared off by its technical condition. And MGS 5 was just boring – it felt like The Witcher in miniature to me, as it also required a lot of time, but gave immeasurably less fanfare.
